• Trading ship built in 1671 by master carpenter Looman, it is a 1,000 ton, 60 cannon ship intended to increase trade with Asia.
• The ship would have given rise to the name of the shipyard as well as the town of LORIENT.
• On September 16, 1681, the Oriental Sun began its last journey and took with it a royal cargo made by the King of Siam Phra-Naraï for King Louis XIV. However, after its stopover at Fort Dauphin, in Madagascar, the Soleil d’Orient sank with the treasures of Siam.
