• The Belem was launched on 10 june 1896 and built near Nantes in France. She was a cargo ship used to carry suggar, cocoa, coffe from Brazil to France and supply the cocoa for a parisien chocolate maker.
• She was a sailboat of 406 tons and 51m on lenght.
• In 1914,she was sold to The DUKE OF WESTMINSTER and converted her to a luxury pleasure yacht. And she was renamed Fantome II having been sold to the Hon. Arthur Ernest Guinness. Then in 1952, the Cini Foundation, bought the ship.
• In 1979, the Belem returned to France and was entrusted to Fondation Belem.
